Break Out - Nina Croft

I had heard about her book from several other bloggers and figured I would give it a read.

The book is a bit shorter then I had anticipated, but every page is full of some form of adventure, trouble or a situation.

Break out is a Sci-Fi, Paranormal Romance, so it has elements of both. Many of the characters are science fiction style, but you definitely get a good sense of many of the main characters once you meet each one.

Humanity has fled Earth, which has become uninhabitable in search of immortality and to continue to live. Two groups have separate ways they believe people should live out their lives. There are those who can afford the hefty price of  Meridian to obtain immortality and those who want to be immortal, but cannot afford Meridian.

Rico is a renegade vampire who is being hunted by a group called the Collective (Sounds like something straight out of Star Trek). He can come of as a womanizer a bit until you get to see his true character. He was once human and as such knows much about humanities past including some customs and traditions. He is also the owner of his ship, which he permits Tannis to be captain of.

Captain Tannis is ruthless and her only objective is to get the money needed to become immortal. As such being her flaw, she takes on a dangerous mission which will get her to her goal. But as she finds out later on, things don't always go as you plan. She is highly suspicious of their "passenger" who assists with the mission.

The Passenger, who provides the information about their mission is Skylar. Skylar is a human who hires Rico and crew to complete the mission. She is cold and calculating and attracted to Rico.

As the crew and Skylar get into the mission things are starting of well, but some things still don't add up. Tannis knows this, Rico does also, but with Being a vampire he knew before Tannis.

I wont spoil what evolves or how it ends as even I was a bit surprised by how things turn out. All in all, this was a good read, If you like your paranormal with a twist of sci-fi...you found a good story.

Marked Son - Shea Berkley

I was somewhat hesitant about reading this book. I've always been a fam of paranormal, but focused more on Vampires than any other creature/being, but after seeing several posts from others I decided to give it a go.
At first this was hard to get into as we switched between the hero, Dylan, and our heroine, Kera.
Dylan is a human who has never fit in. His mother is a hopeless romantic who feels Dylan is a burden on her. He hadn't had a steady home and the few friends he gets in each place forget about him. Dylan has had recurring dreams about a girl in white since his youth. Little known to him it's our heroine,  Kera. When Dylan goes hunting and finds her he finally comes into knowing who he truly is. He finds out he has powers of his own that he doesn't understand until he meets Kera. She helps him understand his powers.
Kera is a young...elf, for lack of a better word. After seeing the main villain murder her close friends she knows her home,  Teag is heading into dark times.  Kera finds out there is a breech in the wall keeping her world separate from that of humans. She decides to go find out and the story takes off as the the two meet and danger is right in pursuit of them.

As their worlds collide each ones devotion and trust is tested and put to the unthinkable!  Kera spends much time in the human realm causing her father to worry about where she went. She is put under guard to keep her from straying from home, but had more up her sleeve than most know about. Once she meets Dylan he gives chase to keep her near.

Dylan ends up in Teag and trouble brews in large as he finds Kera and is trying to stay alive. He is battling his wanton desire for Kera and his need to return home, but finds out it may already be to late. He is courageous, but careless as he gets others involved in his battle. Several friends get involved and join his fight, even if it may mean they don't return home.
Our villain, Navar is cruel and unfeeling.  He stops at nothing to gain ultimate power.  He has the people of Teag believing he will make things right once he is king . They have no choice in giving him their loyalties even if they cannot afford his price. He finds out about Dylan and seeks him out. Dylan and Kera face much uncertainty about their future as Navar will stop at nothing to be rid of Dylan and become king.

As the story starts the finale of this part of his adventure Dylan hits a huge snag which at first sets him back a bit, but  he quickly uses this to his advantage and attempts to turn the tables, only to have it go wrong. It turns out much different than I had thought, but in a good sort of way.

I look forward to the next part, but there is no information from shea's site which indicates when or what that next book is coming out or being called. Until then it leaves you wanting to find out what more will Dylan have to encounter??

Night Walker - Lisa Kessler

Finished reading Lisa Kessler's debut novel, Night Walker today. Her telling is a unique twist on you usual vampire lore of what they are characteristically like. Our Hero, Calisto Terano is a classic love lorne guy. The reincarnation of his once lost love has finally come back. But as history begins to repeat itself, he is forced into situations beyond his control.

Kate Bradley is the reincarnate of Calisto's lost love. Haunted by dreams she cannot shake of a woman she doesn't know. Upon a chance meeting of Calisto, she's drawn to him for reasons she doesn't understand.

At first this book was a little hard to get into as you are introduced to Calisto and Kate back and forth, but once they met things started happening. They get you hooked and wondering just how crazy things can get. It ears well and is surely a keeper for any Paranormal Romance reader.
