Feature & Follow #6

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

If you are new to the #FF fun, Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. Feature & Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them “hi” in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

Now to make this #FF interesting we do a FEATURE blogger. If you are interested in becoming a Feature click on the drop down link above FEATURES > Feature & Follow Friday and get on the waiting list! It is also required, that if you participate you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) and the two Feature blogs.

Parajunkee's Feature – Kate @ Ex Libris

Alison Can Read's Feature - Kristin @ Kristin Can Read

And now the Random Question of this week:

The New Year is here -- and everyone wants to know your New Years Blogging Resolution! What are you going to try to revise, revamp and redo for 2012 on your blog?

I'm in the process of starting to do Author interviews and reviews in 2012. Thus far between January 1st and Valentine's Day I have eight lined up. I'd also love to start a few memes of my own. Any advice on that is always welcomed. I happen to love my blog layout and look (You can thank ParaJunkee for that *winks*) so that won't change, but I'm hoping to have some other things start happening. What that is, I still have yet to discover myself.

"Book Boyfriends of 2011. make a list using ONLY. books you read this year. "

This is going to be a really short list. *scowls* Since I'm fairly new to PNR/ Sci-fi, UF, and all other book categories I don't have the knowledge many of you others do with expansive authors and their continuing series. So here goes my shot.
  • Owen from Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin Series
  • Raphael from Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series
  • Illium from Nalini Singh still -same series as above
  • Wren from Sarah Gilman's Out In Blue

Anyone else, sensing a thing with angels here??? LMAO

Alison Can Read's Feature - Charmaine @ From the Shadows I Review

And now the Random Question of this week:

If you had to spend eternity inside the pages of a book which book would you choose and why?

Become a character in the book or just be stuck? I'd dislike being stuck and not be a part of the story, but if I would be written into a book it's hard to pick just one. As of this year I'd have to say it's Divergent. I was so drawn into the ever changing dynamics and the characters that Veronica wrote, especially Tris and Four. I'd like to test myself and find out which faction I'd become a member of some day. Don't forget Insurgent comes out in May, 2012.

And now the Random Question of this week:

When you've read a book, what do you do with it? (Keep it, give it away, donate it, sell it, swap it..?)

You mean a "physical" book?!? I'm going to be honest and admit I don't have many right now. It wasn't until after I started the blog that I got back into recreational reading and started reading more consistently. So for the few books I do have they are my collection and I don't share very easily. (You never know when one might not or doesn't come back).

""We are approaching the Christmas and the New Year, but before embarking on 2012 tell us, what are your most shameful moments this year, and what are your most proud of?""

I definitely would agree with the UTC gals. Proudest was starting this blog. Even with 80+ followers it's more than I had thought I'd hit after six months. This became my outlet to share my books with you readers and knowing I've encouraged some of you to read a new author or series is all I need to keep going. As for the shameful... That's my dark little secret. *winks*

And now the Random Question of this week:

Keeping with the Spirit of Giving this season, what book do you think EVERYONE should read and if you could, you would buy it for all of your family and friends?

Egad! Just one book... I know MT choice would be Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series because they are so well written and the world is very developed as are the characters. Once I started reading I didn't want to stop! I wish I could say I'd give this to family and friends, but they aren't into Paranormal anything. So this remains my addiction alone. *frowns*

Naughty Not Nice Blog Hop

Welcome to the Naughty Not Nice Blog Hop

Welcome to the Blog Hop, hosted by Seduced by the Book.

This hop is fairly simple... Enter my giveaway for the Romance eBook (yes it has to be romance, but can be PNR, YA, etc, but must be part of the romance genre) of your choice up to a $15 USD in value or international equivalent. The only thing I ask is that if you are chosen as my winner, is that you please send me the link to the source where your eBook can be bought and your E-mail address.

I'm adding a little spice of my own to the hop, I'm adding a question which I have seen with other bloggers, I would like if you'd answer my question in your comment, if you do I will enter you in my own surprise giveaway. However if you win the main giveaway, you cannot with my other giveaway. This way it gives others a chance to win.

This giveaway starts today and goes through Monday, December 12th and runs until Midnight on the 12th. Here are the simple rules:

  • Comment below and include your E-mail address for entry
  • Follow would be nice, but is NOT required
  • Visit the other participants and enter their giveaways
  • HAVE FUN!!

You are standing under some mistletoe at a party, which book character approaches you and steals that kiss you've been dying for?

My answer: This wasn't an easy choice, but when it came down to it I wanted an angel and the one who I kept seeing was Wren from Sarah Gilman's Out in Blue. If you haven't read the book, you REALLY need to. Its a real page turner if you ask me and had me laughing and crying and in shock at a certain revelation which happens near the end.

Good luck and thanks for taking your daily dose of Poison!

"Say you're hosting a Christmas dinner party. Which three fictional characters would you like to invite?"

only three?!?!? How cruel! *sigh* I guess my first choice is Gin Blanco from Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin series. Of course she'd have to bring Owen with her. *drools* then I'd choose Raphael and Elena from Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series. BTW, each pair count as one to me because they are nearly inseparable from each other! And last, but not least Asheron from Sherriyln Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. I'd love to see his hair go red and green for the holidays!! LOL. And there you have my "three" for a dinner party. I'll have Ash ALL TO MYSELF!!! *grins*

And now the Random Question of this week:

What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

OMG! The one thing I can't stand is a book with poorly developed characters! I cannot get into a book which doesn't have credible heroes or heroines that I can't relate to! It just makes it THAT much harder to what to keep reading instead of putting the book away and picking up one you KNOW will keep you turning pages all through the night. If I can't get into the characters emotions and die laughing or cry my eyeballs out at the appropriate times then I'm not going to keep reading just to find out what happens in the end.

Cry Wolf - Angela Campbell

GoodReads synopsis

Andrea Lockhart's job as a reporter for cheesy tabloid The Naked Truth isn't exactly where she thought her journalism career would end up. She's determined to make the best of it, but when her editor sends her to Woodbine, South Carolina, to investigate a werewolf sighting, Andrea decides the ridiculous assignment will be her last. Until she meets Sean Hunter.

The last time she saw Sean, he had just beat her out for the position of editor of their college newspaper, and told her she'd never make it as a reporter. Given his grand ambitions, she's shocked to find him editing the Woodbine Weekly. Once they start competing for leads on the werewolf, Andrea becomes determined to break the story first—she can't let Sean beat her again.M

As they each get closer to finding the source of the rumors, the only thing more surprising than the truth are the feelings Sean is able to stir in her, feelings she thought she had left behind...

This book was interesting from the start.

Andrea Lockhart is a reporter from a tabloid called "The Naked Truth". She was once a touted and famed reporter for a mainstream newspaper. Her latest Editing Manager has sent her to Woodbine, South Carolina to do a story about werewolf sightings. As she is out looking for information, hunting for clues to the authenticity of the sightings she gets snapped in a werewolf trap and is left hanging...literally. After she gets rescued and begins her hunt she runs into the one person she never thought she's see again, Sean Hunter, a former collegiate classmate and now a local paper editor. She is initially happy that Sean doesn't recognize her but pangs of the spark she has start a new fire again. She realizes there is something there for Sean and its genuine.

Sean initially didn't know that the beauty in front of him was his old classmate, she had changed since they graduated. He initially felt the old big brother instinct kick in, but this time other things begin to come out too. Did she still remember those words he said to her back in those days? Why is she working for a tabloid and not a mainstream publication? As his feelings for her grows and she tries to keep him at a distance he begins to think someone hurt her, and it made him angry to see that someone would do that, not realizing part if it WAS caused by him. He comes to find that his remaining family need him but so does Andrea. His nephew has an encounter of his own, and it shakes everyone up, but Andrea also needs him as this predator is becoming bolder and her deadline is only days away.

As they talk to townspeople Andrea comes to realize not everyone likes the publicity that comes from her being there. Many are skeptical and don't believe a thing, claiming its a hoax by some locals. others who have seen it don't share what they've seen because of the skeptics in town. With a determination she relentlessly pursues those who stick with the claim they saw a werewolf, and she finds out that there May be some credibility to their stories. Sean tries to keep her from coming under fire, but the word spreads and things start to get hairy... One night while staking out a local sighting area. After that the sightings start to increase and even the local animals know a predator is lurking in their town. Sean is helping her get the information she needs for her story, not realizing until later that Sean is writing a story of his own...about HER! Sean and Andrea make things work to get what they both want, but their past keeps pushing them apart. You'll have to read to find out how the mystery ends and if Sean and Andrea can overcome the heartbreak and pain to find their happy ending.

Angela spins a clever romance spiked with mystery. Andrea and Sean have a lot to work through to find out they what they need besides solving the mystery is each other. Andrea still feels hurt by some of Sean's actions. Sean knows he was in the wrong for what he did, but his intentions were in her best interest. They are both torn between what they want and what they need to do. Ms. Campbell delivers in this story. I loved the mix of mystery and romance and how it was blended. A great read for those who like to see love bloom in the midst of something unusual. I give it a four of five rating.

Daughter of Lust - Ann Mayburn

Natalia Shura, the daughter of Asmodeus, High Prince of Hell and Keeper of the Deadly Sin Lust, is unaware of the nature of her birth. When her demonic side begins to awaken, her world becomes dominated by dark passions and deadly cravings. Natalia fears she is losing her mind. But her love has been foretold as the only thing that can stop Belal and his allies, and they will do anything to prevent her ascension.

Facing assassins, avenging angels, Hell's deadly politics—and her real father—Natalia must accept the love of more than one man and embrace her demonic heritage as a Princess of Lust. If she doesn't, all that she cares about will be

I received this from an overwhelmed friend, who kindly asked if I could read/review a couple books. O course I could! So without further ado, here is my review of Daughter of Lust

Natalia is coming of age where her demonic nature starts to come out. However, since she is unaware of the fact she is a Camion (Half-demon, Half-human) she start to think her emotions and feelings aren't normal for a woman her age. She is seeking her father, who has problems, when she nearly slits Gregor Trezent's throat. A wealthy businessman, who was ready to have her killed, but decides to let her go and then orders her under his protection. She has feelings for him, but is unclear as to what depths they are yet... As her powers start to come out she's ashamed and scared of the feelings she can sense of others and the feelings they stir within her. A chance encounter with the neighboring boy Vicktor, now a man, has her seeing things that make her panties in a bunch. She comes to find out who her real father is another chance encounter where he is in human form with his top concubine, Galina. He tells her who she is and who he is, she's a disbeliever at first until her heart can't deny it. He then binds her to him as his daughter and disappears leaving her thinking it was a bad dream. She is finally understanding her powers and how they make her feel and how best to yield them, but she must first learn to control them. She unknowingly lets her powers loose and things go from bad to Hell real quick. She comes to find out things are nothing like what she was lead to believe Hell would be like.

Enter Raum, or as Natalia knew him, Vicktor. Raum is one of Asmodeus' alibis and son of Belal and one of the Guards to Asmodeus. He was sent to the human world to watch Natalia and help her come into her powers, but when she let her powers loose, a group of demons goes on a hunt to find her and he is forced to bring her to Hell for protection. He comes to realize that she could be a potential mate for him, but first she must be recognized by the Prince's emissaries as the true daughter of Asmodeus. He is sworn to protect her, but it becomes difficult when her powers and human family are put in danger and the consequences unleashes the Angelic Horde upon earth in search of her, and they flee.

The story started slow as we see Natalia struggle to come to grips with her mew feelings and powers, but progresses nicely as her powers form and she meets Vicktor and Gregor on several occasions. And once in Hell she get to truly see how some actions have dire consequences for loved ones. I'm' not going to ruin the ending, but I will say it was not as intense as I had hoped it would be. It left me lacking and wondering what did really happen once the Angelic Horde found them? In the epilogue I am completely left wondering what happens when Angels and Demons meet and how anyone survives? Other than that, I loved Ann's take on how Hell isn't as most religions portray it. There are places in hell which resemble the human world and even have luxuries. Her take on Demons and Angels is refreshing as well, with Demons of all sorts of skin and eye color, but what was interesting was how she describes their eyes, it reminds me of crude oil, black, but when seen right there are streaks of color in it. Same type of thing goes for angels, they all aren't like humans with white wings of feathers and yes, they DO yield weapons, and I don't mean a harp.

""You are a kick ass chick, ready to face the night and kill some nasty vampires. You have your leathers on, your sidekick is ready... What is your weapon of choice?""

I'll be one to admit, I want technology on my side like Violet here. I want guns and kitana's to materialize when selected and have unlimited numbers at my disposal. It would easily help overcome being outnumbered and even my odds of survival.

Feature and Follow #1

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

If you are new to the #FF fun, Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. Feature & Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, myself of course and Alison of Alison Can Read.

Parajunkee's Feature – Lauren’s Book Blog

My name is Lauren and my blog is Lauren’s Book Bag – not very original I know. Books have been my passion ever since I can remember and I turned my love of reading into a profession by becoming a college lecturer in English literature. I recently received my Ph.D. in Children’s literature and wrote on the Philosophy of Evil in J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.

I have been blogging for about 5 months now and love every minute. My blog is quite eclectic but leans toward romance, particularly romantic suspense, paranormal romance and historical romance. In addition to reading and blogging, I enjoy watching films and playing video games.

Q: Letter to Santa: Tell Santa what books you want for Christmas!

I have been asking Santa every year to replace my Harry Potter series. I lost them in Katrina, which was right after the release of the final Deathly Hallows book. I didn’t think to take my books, well I didn’t think to take much of anything – so they got wet. Really wet. I would like them back again. Maybe this time around Santa can replace them with 1st Ed. UKs. I might faint.

Alison Can Read's Feature Blogger - Books and Barks

Photobucket
My name is Jennifer, I'm 28 years old, and yes - I'm a bookaholic. There, I said it. The first step is admitting you have a problem, right? I love to read. If you don't catch me reading, I'm most likely book shopping. I turned my spare bedroom into my own personal library. One day I came across a group of people on Facebook who are just as much into reading as I am. Book Club was started over our love of the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris. Finally we had other people to discuss our love of Eric with! Now we read and discuss many other series as well, focusing mainly on paranormal.

Talking books with a group led me to creating my blog. I thought to myself, what are some of the things I love most. The answer - books and dachshunds. So that's how Books and Barks was born. Its fun getting to share all of the wonderful books I've found with other readers. The focus on my blog is mostly adult and YA paranormal romance and fantasy, and some of my favorite authors are Jeaniene Frost, Nalini Singh, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Ilona Andrews and Eileen Wilks. Trust me, there are lots more!

Okay, enough about me. Back to my books I go...

This weeks question is:

Q: Letter to Santa: Tell Santa what books you want for Christmas!

A. Dear Santa, I think I’ve been pretty good this year, so here’s what I want for Christmas: Amazon gift cards! I’m known for buying whatever books I want, and almost all of the ones I’d ask for have already been pre-ordered. If you give me a gift card, I’m pretty sure I can find something to spend it on!

Okay, if you’re going to make me choose some specific books for you to bring me, here are just a few that I want:
  • Larissa Ione - Immortal Rider
  • Kresley Cole - Lothaire
  • Gena Showalter - The darkest Seduction
Also, hope everyone comes back for a visit in December, as I'm teaming up with fellow bloggers, Pawing Through Books and Alaskan Book Cafe, to present a special 12 Days of Christmas Extravaganza! We're each going to feature different authors every day, with special guest posts and interviews, and there will be lots of giveaways! Many authors have donated books for individual giveaways, and we'll have a special grand prize giveaway at the end of the Extravaganza. Hope you join us!!! Now for the Follow Fun!

Heart of Darkness - Felicity Heaton

Wow is all I can say about Heart of Darkness! It was an intense, romantic and sweet story that had me entranced from the very beginning. I loved how Aleksandr and Elise were both strong characters and needed each other, but needed to understand each other before they could truly be together.
Elise Cerny is a Vampire, a guard, and a truly determined heroine. Raised by her father, who was a Commander in the Cerny guard of Prague, believing that one day she would take her father's place as the Commander. She joined the ranks before she hit maturity at 17, much to her fathers chagrin about her doing so, but in this she is paired and trained by Andrej, an older vampire hunter who is like an older brother to her, highly skilled and was ranked as a Lieutenant by the time she joined ranks. She uses a blade and her speed in her hunt to protect her people from those who would harm humanity.

Enter our hero, Aleksandr Nemov, a former vampire prince who forsakes and gave up his title to hunt the hunters who are out to kill his kind. He is out on a hunt for a very dangerous hunter who leads him to Prague. His family believed in pacifism and not hunting humans just for the kill and the blood. In a chance encounter he end up fighting Elise after he is caught in a kill. He is enamored by her in several ways. One because as a female guard she is rare, two because of her power and lastly because of her speed. This costs him his concentration and she pins him. He request to see her master and is lead back to her castle. Here he meets the head of her family and comes to stay for the duration of the story. He determinedly requests that Elise be assigned to him and to be shown around by her. She is somewhat aghast as this is outside her normal duties.

One night when out with Aleksandr she feels a hunter approach, as her duty she protects him, but takes a hit from a poisoned bolt. She is not protected against the poison and it quickly engulfs her blood. As she is wavering into unconsciousness he leaps into action and kills the hunter that hurt her. He is so enraged by the fact she was hurt the darkness engulfs him and he massacres the body and goes as far as licking the hunters blood of her fingers. She fades into black and comes to find she was tended to by him. She was falling for him as he had already for her.

As the story continues he attempts to try to win her over, treating her as prey, hunting her, but each time he gets close, it pushes her away. He tries to get involved with her, but she ends up slapping him and states quite clearly that he is not going to possess her like he had so many other women. In attempt to do better and win her over he calls in the cavalry, his brother, Vasiliy. Things get even more out of control after Vasilily actually shows up in he Cerny castle and Alexandr's jealousy over Andrej is only fueled because of his connection to her, which he sees and Andrej can sense.

Things really get to Elise when Aleksandr and Andrej get into trouble and she intervenes. After that things are fairly tense and Aleksandr is getting to see that he must watch himself if he truly wants to win her over. Events change between them and they come to terms and understanding of each other. Alexandr also realizes he inadvertently dragged her family into danger from the hunter. When the hunter makes it known he is in town Aleksandr will go to great lengths to protect Elise and her family.

You will have to read to find out how things work out. It was definitely worth drawing things out to this point.

I give this a 5 of 5 for her well developed characters, the location, and a tense plot-line.

"Which paranormal creature do you wish would "come out of the closet" and reveal themselves to the real world?"

This was a hard choice until I really thought about which Paranormal creature I have always been intrigued with. Many of you might think I would instantly go Vampire as I do have a love affair with their ethereal beauty, charm, and of course their powers, however there is another whom still captures me so completely that my love affair soon is completely forgotten.

The Siren

There is very little written about these creatures from Greek mythology. We know some of what they might look like as described as either mermaid-like or winged creature. It was told that their voices lured ships that rocked and lulled off their coasts to their doom off their homes rocky shores. Some go as far as saying that those who fell to the siren were used to build up their island home, made up of their bones. *shudders*

I like to think of them as the winged creatures with the angelic, entrancing voices of song. They to had their own kind of ethereal beauty which lured men to their deaths, but not on purpose, but to find a mate, only to find that when they lured the men to them the men were doomed to perish off the coasts, leaving the sirens to forever find a way to break their curse and find happiness.

ARC review - Dangerous Magic - Alix Rickloff

Note: This was an ARC at the time of reading, but has however been released in final eBook format. Book was provided by NetGalley and Carina Press. Thank you both.

A magical tale spun in the Regency Era, in the early 1800's. A tale that will make you believe in fate and that you can play a hand at determining how it can come to pass. A tale for all women who believe in seeing their fate as they desire.
Gwenyth is the Witch of Kerrow, a seer and nursemaid. Since her youth has been haunted, thanks to her gift called Sight, by the destiny which awaits any man she falls in love with. She believes her gods have set her fate, she is determined to not marry as the grief she would feel would be too much for her. However, her yearning for a daughter to carry on the Kerrow magic and healers weighs heavily on her mind. Her fate was already laid out on her tapestry in comfortable colors and she was happy in her cottage doing the local healing and birthing. Things begin to change when her brother, Jago drops an injured man off for her to care for. Little did she know how he would affect her. Qwenyth is a strong willed and determined woman who knows where her heart lies and is determined to show fate she won't let it determine her future husbands fate before she can avert it and the grief it would cause her. As she progresses she learns what love is and that some risks need to be taken to get what your heart really wants and that fate is not set in stone, but based on choices we make and how we carry on the path set forth.

Captain Rafe Fleming is a smuggler who has left his family in the wake of the disgrace and the punishment he endured for a crime he didn't commit. He is washed ashore after his ship the Cormorant is wrecked. As he comes to realize little about where he is and who is caring for him she at first didn't see Gwenyth, as he believes most witches to be older, more hunches and aged, only to find a young woman in the peak of her life. As she cares for him he begins to plan his life to return to the civilized society and take up his life with a wife of his own. As he heals and spends time with Qwenyth he comes to see her differently and tries to persuade her that her feelings are deeper than she lets on. And he doesn't realize, until its nearly too late that what he really wanted was with him all along.

Gwenyth is determined to have a child, and Rafe to find a suitable wife in society in his home of Bodliam. He feels with Gwenyth's Sight he can find a wife who can love him for who he is and not for his roguish good looks or money. She feels he may be the one to give her the daughter she so desperately needs, under the guise of being his betroved. They strike a rather strange bargain to obtain what they both want. As she makes the choice to help Rafe and leaves the confines of her small cottage she begins to question her feelings and the absurdity of the bargain. In Bodlaim she meets his family who look at her as an unsuitable wife, especially for a man of society who needs a wife who can keep him in respectable eyes. Even with Gwenyth there, his family keeps her at arms length, and she can sense their true thoughts and feelings.

They come to meet the woman who once burned and hurt Rafe in his youth, Anabel. She is vindictive little wench to put it nicely, and she is determined to have Rafe for herself since he has returned. She is eagerly welcomed into Rafe's family as the two are brought together. Gwenyth sees Anabel's true thoughts and desires and knows that she is wrong for him, but will give him a society wife. She also realized the true depth of her feelings for Rafe and reality and fate are one in the same. Things get quickly out of hand and she is eager to return home. This actually helps them as they are both trying to keep their bargain intact, but their stoked fire of love is hard to put out. It is only near the end that both realize their desires ans reconcile things.

The ending is the part where everything comes together in a way that is truly fitting for both. I can't give it away as it is truly a marvel in and of itself. I was crying reading as the events unfolded and everything came to a truly crashing end. I was thrilled and pulled into this story as we see how Rafe handles being thrown back into society where he realizes his heart no longer yearns to be and Gwenyth finds her true feelings. There is so much chemistry and magic with Rafe and Qwenyth and seeing them get through thick and thin.

Alix Rickloff does a superb job of weaving a true tale of fate and love. All the characters are highly developed and come across in their own voices. I found myself wanting to read it more and more as the story went on. I give this a 4 of 5 for her highly developed characters and the inspiring plot she weaves.

"What supernatural power would you NOT want to have?"

I would definitely not want the power to see the future, not their death, but some peoples futures can be downright scary! I was reading a Book titled Dangerous Magic by Alix Rockloff, and the main character, a witch, has the Sight, as her power is called, and has seen her future and how her future husband dies out in the ocean. She has predetermined for herself never to marry due to the intense grief and pain it would cause her. I don't want to have to see my love's fate or anyone else's for that matter. Not Cool! I'd rather not know!

"Zombies are attacking your house!
What do you grab first?" "

Zombies? Are you serious??!! I'm not about zombies, but I can play with that. If I had a shotgun I'd likely grab that so I can clear my exit route...then make a mad dash for my car before they can come after me. Since I don't truly have a shot gun I guess anything blunt and sharp will have to do...then make a break for a vehicle to get the hell out of dodge! and fast!

Romance Girl Gone Goblin

It's finally Halloween weekend! The one time of year I can break out of my skin (so to speak) and let my inner crazy smutty self come out to play!!! In honor of this I'm going share a small slice if myself with you... You have been forewarned!

I'm a huge fan of Halloween. In fact, it's my favorite holiday. Back in college my dorm had a huge contest to see which "wing" could come up with the scariest display. As you can imagine we'd grab anything we could to decorate the halls... Garbage bags, fake spider webs, etc. My hall was doing an Asylum, we had our carts made into gurneys and people dressed in long robes as the attendants and quite a few crazies...myself included. We would roam our hall acting all kinds of crazy! It was super fun even though we didn't win. I still dress up every Halloween.. This year won't be any different. I'm going as a pirate wench!! My costume is similar to this:

I'm doing my first US giveaway with Romance author Lisa Sanchez.

1. I ask you please become a follower (not however required)
2. Visit Lisa's Site and check out the other participants
3. Have fun meeting new bloggers/authors in this giveaway hop!

I'm giving away a $10 Amazon GC to one lucky commentor. The drawing is being held all weekend through 11:59 CST on Halloween. The winner will be selected via random.org and will have 72 hours (3 days) to respond to my e-mail before another entrant is drawn. In order to be included you need to leave your E-mail address where I can contact you, should you win.

Thanks for dropping in for a dose of poison! I hope you enjoyed my story.

"If you could shape shift into anything, what would it be?"

Oh, a shifter eh? Hmm... I can go one of two ways. I love powerful cats, so one choice would be a cougar.

Don't mess with this kitty....RAWR!

Or a fire dragon, I've always had a thing for the mythical creature...

Don't mess with me unless you want to get BURNED!!!

"You have been viciously attacked, but then saved by the tall, dark vampire of your dreams; however, he has had to change you into one of the blood sucking denziens of the night to save your life. After realizing that your favourite snack is now going to be a sip of O negative, what food do you begin to think you will lose your immortality for?"

Very intriguing question! I can't name a specific food exactly, but anything spicy and HOT will be sorely missed by me. I've always been one who wants to put Sri Rancha hot sauce on most anything bland, *shudders* that is bad stuff when your food tastes like cardboard, or worse. From fried rice to even Chili I add a bit of the red hot saice to give it the kick I crave, plus I bet many of you didn't know that adding some hot spice to your food is said to help decrease your appetite!! Not like I need it *snort*, but it makes me want to keep eating and enjoy the food all that much more, and I'll definitely savor the burn!

Updater - Tardiness

HI Everyone.

I know it's been forever since I've done a review. Here's whats going on. I'm doing a Buddy Read of Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin series with my good blogging friend Gigi of Down and Dirty, Lusty and Flirty. We are into Book Four - Tangled Threads. My goal is to complete the series by the end of next week and do a FULL series review book by book in the end. So far it has had its better book and some that were hard to want to keep reading the full series. More about that to come in the review.

After that buddy read is over I am doing a second one with Laurie of Bona-Fide Reflections. We are going to read Guild Hunter series book Archangel's Consort. So far in my own reading of this series I have been all over the emotional chart. I'm looking forward to completing the series thus far. It has been compelling, enthralling and totally addicting.

After that I have a few books from NetGalley I am going to read and review before they get published in mid November. After that I'm WIDE open for buddy reads or anything else all you lovely folowers would like to suggest.

Thanks for having your Dose of Poison and stick around for the Full Elemental Assassin series review.

Love,
Poison

"Who is the villain you love to hate?"

My villain I love to hate. That dude was just skin shiveringly creepy! When I was reading the various instances of what he was doing to the hero and heroine or any one of their loved ones I had goosebumps crawling all over my skin! That's the kind of villain I need in a book. One whom an author can get me to react to, it draws me in and keeps me reading to see what happens as a result. *shudders*

Interview - C.J. Ellisson

I'm totally Honored (and I nearly died) to be having C.J. Ellisson and her two deadly loveable main characters dropping in for an interview! Thanks to C.J., Vivian and Rafe for Picking Poison to be your drug of choice. *grins*

Please welcome C.J. Ellisson!

Please share a little about yourself and your works for those who haven’t gone in depth about what got you to this point.

I’m a full time writer with a family, trying my best to balance all the same everyday hassles we all encounter, but with a slight twist. I also have three autoimmune diseases and several tick borne diseases I’m battling as well. Some days are very hard and other seem to fly by with ease. Like you, I try my best to handle it with grace. I don’t always succeed.

I started writing to distract myself from my physical limitations and when I look back, I’m still shocked at how quickly things came together for me. I never had a dream to write. I don’t hear voices in my head where I must get their stories out or I won’t sleep. I’m not your average writer in that regard.

I came into this career as a reader first and feel incredibly lucky other readers have enjoyed the world and characters I’ve tried to create. The first piece of fiction I’ve written since one lonely creative writing class in college over twenty years ago, was Vampire Vacation, book one in my contemporary fantasy series, which was published in Oct 2010.

The sex scenes seemed particularly easy to write, and people loved them, so I quickly wrote two erotica novellas while taking a break from writing book two, The Hunt, in the fantasy series.

I know that people were a big influence on your story and the characters; did those who read it feel like their characters were true to life?

God, I hope not! I wanted to steal their names, quirks, and some of their personality traits… but I never intended for the fictional characters to be like them. Although, I can safely report that no one whose name I’ve borrowed or stolen has been angry with the outcome.

Thankfully, the people whose names I used are friends, whether in my hometown, my past, or from my newer online friendships on Facebook (the online connections made a HUGE impact on me when I was house-bound, and still do).

Who or what was the inspiration behind Vivian and Rafe?

This sounds so bad when I say it out loud: Me and my husband. Granted, I’m not an ancient vampire, forever young and healthy with a multitude of powers, and my German descent husband is not nearly that gorgeous or perfect, but hey, we can all dream, right? After all, that is the point to creating a fantasy-make it better than real life, but still realenough to be believable.

Oh – and just to clarify, I’ve never hung from the rafters or been chained to a wall. I like to point that out so there is no confusion that the sex scenes are indeed works of fiction. Real life might inspire them, but I am not, nor will I ever be, Vivian. Nor will my husband by Rafe (dammit!).

What made you decide to have the secluded Alaskan outback as your location for the stories?

It seemed like such a natural fit. If you had to avoid the sun wouldn’t you go to a place that was perpetually dark most of the year? During the summer my happy couple flies to the opposite pole and lives off the southern coast of Argentina on a private island. Apparently, unlimited money and resources do have their perks. ;-)

I'd have to agree with that completely! Not like I'd know personally though.

We didn’t see much of Coraline in The Hunt, was she in hiding or being a deceptive, sneaky uber-bitch?

You nailed it on the second one. Originally I had thought she’d play a bigger role, but when the story started to unfold and center on the hunters, I realized she’d need to play a smaller supporting role. She’ll be more prominent in book three.

I thought as much especially when she'd kind of appears out of nowhere *shudders*

I know you are working on the next story which focuses on Vivian’s dark, mysterious past, any plans to talk about Rafe’s backstory?

Yes! Actually, book three, Big Game, will focus on the enemies of her past. Her journey from human to vampire to enforcer and beyond, as well as Rafe’s painful past and how the two came together, will be book four, The Seduction of Death.

I love those titles already, can't wait to see what they look like *smiles* and what happens!!

I saw that you have two covers for Vampire Vacation, what made you decide to do a second cover and which do you like better?

I really liked the first one with the dark and forbidding inn in the background. I felt it represented the book well, but it didn’t sell. I created the purple one myself and sales took off. Anything that catches the reader’s eye and convinces them to try my work falls into the LOVE category quite heavily ;-)

And now I have the "pleasure" of talking with Vivian and Rafe, who somehow managed to rip themselves apart long enough to asnwer a few questions for me. *smiles mischeviously*

Hello Vivian and Rafe, I promise not to take too long, so you can get back to your “fun”. Welcome to both of you. It’s a delight to be able to talk about the Inn and what’s happening.Let's dig right in

Vivian, when you first realized it was Rafe who came walking in, what was your first initial reaction to the dashingly-handsome full grown man you now have with you?

Vivian: Oh, darling, if you are referring to that night long ago in Paris, well, it’s safe to say I wanted him. But I was bound and determined to keep him from me.

Rafe: And we all know how successful you were with that. *smiles*

Vivian: Let’s just say it was one of the few times in my life where I failed miserably and am happy for it.

Rafe, did Olga send you to Vivian, or were you drawn to the redheaded beauty as you were in youth?

Rafe: Great question! I lusted after her the moment I saw her in my mom’s studio all those years ago. At the time, she appeared to be this polished older woman and I knew I didn’t have a chance. She moved away after I spoke to her one night, it was the oddest thing.

My mother is the one who sent me after her fifteen years later. I had lived a full life by then and was more open to Vivian’s… er…. um… unique lifestyle.

Vivian, I know you got an eye-full when you stormed in on Jet, Matt, their companion, and Bob. What were your true thoughts on seeing their BDSM interactions? *evil grin*

Vivian: *lusty laugh* Ahh… a girl after my own heart. Truly, I thought back to a century ago when I was with four men in a similar scenario. Of course, I had the whip and I sure as hell didn’t leave for the night, but damn, it was fun.

I know you have a larger seethe than you’d hoped for. Are you finding it beneficial at all now, having others to help make decisions and looking out for each other, and not just you taking the responsibility on yourself?

Vivian: Ha! Making decisions, I wish. The lot of them bug me incessantly and have interrupted sex more times then I care to think about. *Rafe places a hand on her arm* But, I will admit the burden of the workload is spread nicely and they do pull their own weight rather well.

Rafe: I think things are going much better than we could have hoped for. While we’re in Argentina the boys plan on working on constructing alternate entrances to the basement. I think the improvement will give us the cushion of space Vivian desires in our private quarters.
I bet that will help, no more going through your private quarters in unwanted moments.

After having the hunt, are you planning on another or letting things go back to normal, now that all that drama and craziness is over?

Vivian: Oh God, I wish! We’re off to our summer island, arriving early to visit the Tribunal and surprise my enemies. Asa, Jon and the two new pups, Pat and Eric, are running a big game hunt on the resort for shifters. At least this time they’ll be hunting animals and not vampires. I think it should go smoothly, even without the rest of the seethe there. We’ll just have to see.

Rafe: I think the most excitement we should plan in the foreseeable future is a big Halloween month in October. That might attract the more dramatic set of vampires and be an interesting draw.

Vivian: Great idea, love! You know I love a good costume party. Oh – we could make the whole month one big costume party! Let’s start planning that right away. *Rafe rolls eyes* *laughs at Rafe*

You overcame a lot of your inner demons and trusting others throughout the deal with the dead John Pierre and then Emiko’s escapade, are you feeling more like yourself now?

Vivian: Distrustis more like myself; this recent development with a larger seethe is a pain in the ass. Keeping others at arm’s length is easier and safer. But, damned if the crafty sons-a-bitches haven’t wormed their way into my life. It’s quite unsettling.

I see that Jon is a bit attracted to Vivian, Rafe. Not to mention you’ve seen/heard what thoughts he has about her. What’s happened since then?

Rafe: *sigh* We’ve agreed to keep him in mind contact with us more. Too many accidents, like the one with Vikram, just aren’t worth the risk of shutting him out mentally. We both love him, although admittedly, I hate him as equally. We need to find him a mate so he can get his lusty thoughts off my wife.

Yes, we all know how much you dislike his interest in your dear Vivian. *rolls eyes myself*

How has the rest of the seethe adjusted, Paul, Drew, and Asa?

Vivian: Paul doesn’t have much choice; it’s either adjust or lose his family. What will the future hold as they grow older and he doesn’t? We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

Asa has really come out of his shell with the arrival of Eric. I never knew the stiff bastard could laugh so hard. He says he likes Alaska better than Manhattan, and since I agree I certainly can’t argue he isn’t telling me the truth.

Drew… well, he seems much more open since his relationship with Chelly started. There was a rough patch last fall after he killed Ivan, but I think the episode gave him closure.

Over all, besides them spending way more time in our apartment than I’d like, I’d say they’re getting along well, wouldn’t you, Rafe?

Rafe: Yeah, I don’t think we have any issues we’re unaware of… but then again, that is the whole point about being unaware of something, isn’t it?

Now for a couple fun ones:

Favorite term of endearment for each other?

Vivian: He calls me “liebling” which means darling in German and I call him “love”.
Rafe: You left out “smart ass”.
Vivian: How about if I leave off “smart” next time?

Favorite toy in the dungeon rooms?

Vivian: Oh, that’s a tough one. If I had to choose I’d say the silver chains on the whipping wall.

Rafe: The rack always leaves me with a smile. And of course, I have a special fondness for the whip and crop.

Vivian: *shudders* Don’t tease.

Favorite room in the wings?

Rafe: I love the poolroom. It took me a long time to train the birds to talk, but sitting in that calming, oasis-like space I didn’t care about the lost hours. Next, I love the dojo, we’ve had some fun times in there sparring together.

Vivian: You would mention those damn birds. *grimaces* I love the reading parlors and book-lined landings on each floor. I’ve collected those books for centuries and sitting with them feels like visiting an old friend.

Rafe: Oh, and can I mention the Roman baths or the Gentleman’s Lounge? It’s so hard to pick. We designed the inn to please lots of different tastes, so if you feel like you need a change a new room might appeal to you more.

Oh, sounds like a place to really let your fantasies come to life! *gets excited*

Thanks for taking the time to stop by Vivian and Rafe!It was spanking good fun!

Vivian: Thanks for having us, Sara! It was a rousing good time.

Rafe: Yes, agreed. Now, let us get back to our hotel and enjoy the peace and quiet before our long flight home. *wiggles his eyebrows*

Vivian: Another great idea, my love.
