And now the Random Question of this week:

Have you had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with and then "broke up" with later on in either a series or stand alone? Tell us about it

I have a couple that come to mind, but the one that stands out is, Ward de’Ath from Ward Against Death. I'm sorry MelanieCard, but he fell flat, I started to like him, but he seemed to have lost steam as he dragged Celia around trying to solve the mystery of who wanted her dead. Not to mention the redundancy of him having to keep to his oath when he damn well knew that he was being hunted with Celia. He seemed to try to hard at doing his thing and time and time again watched as things got out of hand. He had so much potential but not enough to keep me liking him.

My apologies,

Foresaken Series - Guest Post

The Forsaken Series by Elise Whyles and Ciara Lake

Creating a believable world.

In every genre your world building is key. With some genres the world is already built you just fill in the romance, mystery, or whathaveyou. When you start to do books in paranormal, fantasy, and other like genres you have to build the world from scratch. How do you do it? How can you as an author build a world the reader will be drawn into and hooked and finish the book thinking I wish I could go there?

Its not an easy thing to do. There's a lot of thought, work goes into the process. With some beings such as vampires, werewolves etc we have an idea established about them - not always the way an author sees it but if the reader thinks vampires are all blood sucking males who are allergic to the sun how can you work with that while building something original? You have to stretch it.

When we started on Forsaken Series, we had a generalized idea of what we were wanting to do. What species we were thinking of, what we felt were overdone or had flooded the market. So we decided we need to build worlds for each species, make them all connected much like earth and give each one its own social, political, and legal system. Meant a lot of time spent in Google chat I tell you, I think we wore it out there for a while lol. But the overall ideas, the feel we wanted was there.

Would I suggest building twenty different worlds at once - uh never again - but when you're starting out you don't know. So after many weeks of chats, of brainstorming and ideas being bounced around, we figured out there were three things we each needed to do to be sure our worlds were what the reader could get into and believe.

1. Each world is just enough like Earth to be believable without being cliched. There are marked differences, but if you read from one to the next there's one sun, one moon, seasons, connections to earth in many forms.

2. Vivid, technicolor threads throughout. No world is the same, and we've worked hard to ensure the descriptions of our worlds are spot on and key to the story, the plot, the series.

3. Fun. Even in the dark, edgy tone of these books the reader will see there are things about our worlds that are fun. From the parties, to sunsets, to culture shocks...there's something a reader can relate to.

Something we also did was have a blast with planning and creating. None of what we've done was easy, but we took our time and hashed it out. Open and solid communication is key to building that believable world in the books.

The first book, Forsaken Heart by Elise Whyles has released. The second book Curse of a Dragon’s Claim by Ciara Lake will release shortly.

Forsaken Heart

Punished for sins not her own, can a mortal claim her vampire mate?

The world of immortals must unite to save both themselves and the mortals they co-exist with from an ancient evil. For Bede MacTaggert this means trusting in the warrior sent for her sister—a man of mystery, of power, and one who could easily sweep her into a world she's destined to be part of.

An imperial guard to the king of vampires, Gawain has always tuned out the needs of the flesh. Dedicating himself to the service of the royals, he's lived on the fringes of his people for centuries. Now he's forced from the shadows and into the arms of a woman who will awaken his heart and body to a passion unequaled.

Content Warning: sexy alpha vampire, explicit sex, violence

Excerpt

"Frails are not to be toyed with," Gawain ground out and grabbed the girl, spinning her away, his sword at the ready as the man heaved upward, a dagger clutched in his hand. Gawain's sword rested easy on his palm, ready, the surface slicked with blood as he faced the coward.

"She's mine to do with as I choose." He gurgled, collapsing to the ground, his weapon falling from pudgy fingers. "Paid ten pieces of gold for 'em both, and I aim to get a might of use out 'em."

"Now she's mine," Gawain declared. Raising his sword, he drove it through the man's chest, pinning his twitching frame to the ground. He stepped back, his gaze sweeping the clearing. Males such as this did not travel alone, his cohorts would be close. He'd need to find and kill them…

Searing pain lanced through him, splitting his chest. Gawain glanced down. The thin, sharp tip of a blade stuck from his chest. He touched the blade and snarled. The metal was warm, when it should have been cold. Shock slammed into him as the blade began to glow, turning a searing red before changing back to normal, or as normal as it could be with blood racing down the weapon.

Whirling, his hand already scrabbling for the dagger's hilt in his back, he grabbed his assailant by the throat and lifted. Grunting as he pulled the weapon free, his lips curled upward. "You'd do well, wench, to know your place."

"If you think I mean to let you do her harm…" Sputtering, her nails digging into his wrists, the girl's brown eyes stared into his. Fear lay within the depths but something else stirred. Something dark, dangerous, easily recognized if one knew what they were looking for.

His fingers moved, tightening, loosening as he pulled her against him. Inhaling, he caught the faint scent of blood, fear, sweat, fire, and something sultry, sweet, and light on his tongue. Drawing the scent deep, he wallowed in it, his body responding to the aroma he'd dreamed of but never found.

Gawain inhaled slowly, his muscles tightening, burning. Using the tip of her dagger, he pushed the material of her shift aside. The scrolling marks of a serpent flared before his eyes. It coiled and danced beneath the girl's flesh.

Review - Night Games by Crystal Jordan

Night Games
By Crystal Jordan

Over time, the Magickals have learned to live in the company of humans and keep their extraordinary abilities a secret. But despite their vigilance, one lurks among them who will stop at nothing to obtain his dark desire...

A cop with the Seattle P.D., Selina Grayson is committed to both her job and her privacy. Few know that she's a centuries' old elf with a tragic past that continues to haunt her. Yet her body still craves the exquisite ecstasy of sex that is her birthright--and a night of complete sensual abandon is just what she needs...

He's wary of their power, but one touch from Selina ignites a fire within his blood. Hot with desire, he's ready to succumb to her erotic spell. But working a serial killer case together isn't quite as pleasurable--especially when the killer has a taste for humans like Jack. Now one wrong move could put out their heat for eternity...

Review

Selina Grayson is a Magickal Fae with enhances senses. She's thrown into her friends bridal party and forced to wear a dress she can't help but dislike. She would rather be alone at home then deal with other people and Magickals alike in a dress which reveals too much skin for her liking. Once her main obligations as over shes relaxing at the bar when she is approached by Jack Laramie and a night of pure pleasure ensues shorty after they both ditch the wedding. Early the next morning Jack is called into work, leaving Selina hanging without so much as a good bye kiss.

Jack Laramie is a Normal (human) who world for the Magickal division of the FBI. He also has a few dark secrets that he keeps from others. He doesn't want his past to haunt him, but he can't help but feel that what happened was his fault and could have been prevents had he been there when needed, and

Shortly there after, Selina is also called into work on a special case her boss knows she'll want to be involved in. Upon arriving she is asked to help the Normal FBI with a case which, with all sighs indicate that an old serial killer is back in town. Selina is shocked at how similar this is to a case she got involved in 30 years ago and the old memories come flooding back. She is more determined then ever to catch this killer before another victim falls prey to this horror. She believes this is not a copycat, but the very same killer who viciously her last living relative 30 years ago.

As Jack catches Selina entering the scene of the crime he can't help control his thoughts of what they did last night, but he soon learns that she has a very fine line drawn at what is acceptable on the job and what is not. Jack learns that he has to be professional and stoic around her and not show his feelings around her in public..after all this is just a friendship with benefits, or is it. As he works with her to iron out the details of what happened and try and crack any clues about who their killer is they find there is nothing linking them, but one Vampire who is as hard to catch as they come. enter Beth who has a secret of her own and is glad to help them track this vamp down.

Outside of work these two spend many nights in carnal pleasures and enjoying what they do to each others bodies. From Selina and her pleasure spells which allow them each to feel how they affect the other to seeing just how much they can handle. By day they try to conceal the lust they both desire, but some of their co-workers can sense things aren't as simple as they appear. As the case escalates and more victims are found all over the country from the past 30 years they are growing more desperate to find this killer, then things take on a turn as Jack's own stepfather

This was a spellbinding novel and a gripping tale as the væmpires are almost superior to vampires in many ways - stronger, faster, and far more devious then anyone would have thought. I loved Cassie's determination not to give in and let the væmpires have their way with her and how she fought to be free and fight, even if just to see Daniel again. Daniel had to come into his rightful place as acting king and look at the bigger picture when he wanted nothing more than to be with Cassie. Seeing both of them fighting for each other was endearing and captivating as they would do whatever they could to end of the væmpires trying to kill them both. I give this a solid 4 stars.

The One flawed hero I can recall off hand is from a book I recently read,"The Dark Side of Purgatory" by LJ Hadaway. This hero had an addiction he just never could quit, even after trying and getting help he kept going back and it cost him...dearly. You'll have to read the post to find out why.

How's this for your flawed hero look. *winks*

Guest Blog and Review - Cursing Athena

Welcome. Today I am welcoming Tydeus from Lisa Sanchez's Cursing Athena.

Welcome Ty!

Let me just start this godsforsaken post by saying I don’t write. I don’t have a creative side, and if I did, I wouldn’t take the time to foster it in the hope of being able to create some type of meaningful repartee to “wow” you with. My name is Tydeus of Calydon, and I’m a warrior, handpicked by the goddess Athena, born and bred to do battle. I hunt the dregs of the Underworld, kill escaped demons and take pleasure in it while doing so. What I don’t do is blog. Unfortunately, my creator, Lisa, enjoys tormenting me as much as Athena, and I’m being forced to take part in this so-called character blog. I have a few choice words to say about this, but I’ll spare you for now.

I was given three topics to choose from for this godsdamned post. I’ve listed them below, along with my answers. Enjoy.

What are your hobbies?
Killing. ‘Nuff said.

Why did Athena choose you to lead The Order?
Holy Hera! Is this a serious question? This shit is a waste of my godsdamned time (shakes head.) Whatever. I’m a fucking beast, a warrior, a killing machine bred to fight, to win. When I was mortal, there were none that could best me. Athena recognized my prowess on the battlefield and vowed to reward me with immortality. She followed through with her vow, but not as she’d originally planned. Temporarily maddened by my love of bloodshed, I went too far with one of my kills and angered the goddess. She kept her vow to make me immortal, but punished me as well, cursing me with an inner beast, a Nemean lion. My fur is impervious to attack, mortal weapons cannot kill me, and my teeth and claws are sharper than swords. Like I said, I’m a fucking beast. The godsdamned King Of The Jungle.

What do you cherish most?
There’s nothing in this realm or any other that’s more important to me than Danika. She is my light. The only pure, good thing in my existence. For reasons that will be forever unknown to me, she sees past the atrocities I’ve committed and chooses to love me anyway. I thank Zeus for her daily, and would happily give my life for hers if necessary. She is an angel, beautiful, regal, gentle and divine. She is everything, and I will kill anyone and anything that threatens her, or the love that we share.

For Danika, the only thing worse than going commando while wearing a fugly, silver bodysuit, was dealing with her deadbeat, ex-husband James. Catcalls, unwanted groping and lecherous stares weren’t really her cup of tea either, but she’d endure all of it and more if her new job serving cocktails at Masquerade meant ridding herself of his mountain of debt. It was just a job, after all, and what choice did she have with James' creditors breathing down her neck? What she didn't bargain for, however, was falling heels-over-head in lust with a two-hundred-plus pound, shape-shifting immortal from Ancient Greece.

On a mission to take down a parasitic demon, Ty doesn't have time for distraction. Not even when that distraction could prove to be his possible lifemate in the form of sweet, innocent, yet sexy-as-hell Danika. But when the leech he’s hunting goes after the cocktail waitress, all bets are off. Unable to resist her siren call any longer, Ty surrenders himself to Danika, body and soul, treating them both to a night they'll never forget.

Review

Dakina is a hardworking woman, who unfortunately due to an abusive ex-boyfriend is stuck with his debt. In order to help her pay off the debt she takes on a second job waiting tables at Masquerade, a night club where all the wait-staff have to dress in full costumes. One evening she manages to arrive last and gets stuck in the awful alien costume, a tight green spandex monstrosity which is so tight you can't wear a bra and panties without lines showing up! When she is told to go wait on Ty's table she feels she is being watched she finds Ty staring at her and feels compulsed to keep herself composed and walks up to him.

Holy Hera! Ty can't keep his eyes of Danika and her perfect body! He even has her breaking protocol and removing her mask which only gets her in trouble with her asshat of a boss. Ty feels protective of her and even sticks up for her. They both feel the pull ,but Ty is cursing Athena at the poor timing, he has to find and kill the demon lurking in town before it takes another host. When Danika's boss returns and is making her lap dance for a well paying client and barking at Ty that he can't afford the price to get Danika off lap duty, he does just that...

Enter Danika's ex who is making a ruckus, getting drunker and angrier by the second. Danika is forced to interject before he causes trouble, but when she manages to get him out of the public eye, he takes it as an advance and makes his move on Danika. Ty picks up on her panick and handles the nasty ex, but not before Danika gets in trouble and fired...leaving her in tears and fleeing from Masquerade. Ty wants to go after her, but picks up that the demon is near by and goes in pursuit. When he finds thr demon he sees it has Danika, unleashing his inner beast, which is a HUGE lion with jaws and a roar that would scare anyone silly. Danika cowers as the lion attacks and rips her attacker to shreds. Then Ty has them taken back to his place and he tells her about himself, hoping not to scare Danika away.

Danika can't believe that Lion is really Ty, but seeing is believing. SHe listens and manages to accept Ty for who and what he is. Does she accept and fall for Ty? You'll need to read to find out.

I truly love Lisa's writing style! She has a way with words that readers can grip onto and stick with. She writes to the readers emotions. I loves seeing Danika break down and be human. Her sadness at loosing her job is palpable and something most readers can relate to. With Ty we have an all around warrior, with a hardened heart, his only flaw happens to be the one woman he can't refuse or ignore. He's conflicted at what to do when he can feel her heated gaze looking him over and the shock at seeing him in lion form. I loved this short novella and can't wait for the others in this series. A solid four of five stars for Cusring Athena!

Review - Sexy In Stilettos by Nana Malone

It’s a strategy that’s served her well until she finds herself in failure alley with no fiancé, no job and her thirtieth birthday looming. Maybe it’s time to change her methods. Starting with an unlikely date to the wedding from hell.

Can Jaya put the lists down long enough to enjoy the ride that is Alec? Will Alec stop running long enough to recognize true love?

Warning: Sexy, sass talking women will make you laugh, cry and want a pair of killer footwear.

About the Author

Nana's love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense she borrowed from her cousin on a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana at a precocious thirteen. She's been in love with kick butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.

Waiting for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, Nana, meantime works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as she thinks she is. Though, until that ninja job comes through, you'll find her acting out scenes for hubby and puppy while catching up on her favorite reality television shows in sunny San Diego.

Poor Jaya Trudeaux has just gotten done doing the presentation to snatch her a HUGE client and get the proverbial event of her dreams planned, until her father and her ex fiancé pull her aside and drop the biggest bomb on her. They claim she didn't follow the approved presentation and isn't trying to help Trudeaux think toward the companies future. In her father's office they skitter around the facts until she tells it like it is. Leave it to Jaya to be blunt. Running from the office trying to be strong in the face of loosing the only job she was ever meant to have, as part of the family business she heads face first crying into the hard body of Alec Danthers.

The last thing Alec wants is to get tied down. He is the bachelor type, never staying around long enough to let love find it's way in and running when he thinks things are getting him in too deep. But when Jaya runs smack dab into him, he can't help but feel protective and want to keep her from feeling like she is now. He comforts her and helps her feel better, and when her tears do subside she is shocked by her own behavior, she is not one to be seen as weak. She offer to pay for his dry cleaning and hands him her card. Only for him to find out after calling Trudeaux that she is no longer there.

As part of the process of helping her feel better, she becomes a slob, her apartment is a wreck, and she went and bout the 4-digit Stiletto shoes her, and her two best friends have been oogling forever! whats a girl to do when wanting to feel better? Her friends drag her out for a night at the bars. Only she also runs into Alec working the bar. They flirt, they have mind blowing sex...then fall asleep together, and eventually Jaya bails and leaves Alec wondering what went wrong. IN her process to try and disappear her purse spills, and in her haste she left behind her credit card and license. How is Alec to track her down, but the license she left behind.

He asks her to breakfast and is hesitant to walk out the door with the handsome man she never intended to sleep with! But he offers to help her get a job with Adele Winthrope, the owner and devil-woman who owns the hotel chain by the same namesake. She is at first hesitant, but he promises to be on his best behavior. She manages to snag the job with Adele Winthrope, she spends LOT of time with and doing Alec and scratching a few things off her to-do before 30 list (think dirty). However, Alec gets distracted by the other job at hand and trying to keep pace with Jaya and keeping them both awake long hours. Trying to track down his black sheep brother is easy enough, but brinnig him back home to face Adele can frighten any man. And when Alec's chance to grab him hits, it hits at the time Jaya needed him most...the night of her sisters wedding, leaving her to attend solo.

Jaya is torn and hurt by Alec leaving her in her time of need, and even when he showed up late Jaya is cold and her pains are running 100mph as they come face to face. She snubs him and walks away holding her head high. She keeps busy with planning Adele's event for the next several months, but even her friends know that she still misses Alec, even if she won't admit it. Alec is pining over Jaya, but knows she needs her space. On the night of Adele's big event, Jaya is confronted by her father, and Alec who practically begs Jaya to forgive him because he can't forget about her. Did Jaya cave to Alec and have their happy ending or does she snub him again, keeping her pride? You'll have to read to find out.

I came to enjoy the book as I read it. I really liked how the pace wasn't to fast and we rally get to see Jaya, her emotions and just how OCD she is with lists. It was kind of funny to see she has a "To do before thirty list." She is strong and very determined to get what she thinks she wants, but finds that in letting go of her lists that life brings out so much more! Alec is a bit shocked at how organized and just how planned out Jaya is, but he somehow gets her to let loose and have a bit of fun. I loved watching how these two interacted and how they overcame their fears. I liked Nana's writing style and how she made her characters quirky and fun, and not the usual romantic type. Watch out for a really steamy scene involving balcony sex. *winks* I give this a 4 of 5 stars.

To Comment or Not to Comment? Thats the Question.

Bieng a blogger is a serious matter to almost all of us bloggers, so when it comes to comments from the authors there are a few rules I abide by and I would like to think many authors would as well. I don't make them to complex as it only makes commenting and gaining a better relationship difficult.

My rules

  1. Comments are ALWAYS welcome
  2. Only positive comments direct on the blog please.
  3. If you wish to share constructive criticism please do that by E-mail.
  4. If you do send E-mail please be considerate.
  5. IF you wish you can explain why it was written that way, or ask for ways you think it can be improved for further WIPs.

See, nothing too complicated. It really is a courtesy to say thank you to the blogger for taking the time to read and review an author's works. I personally consider it a privilege to be able to read an author's works before it hits the main stream, or even shortly after it does and lets others know what happens (without spoiling major plot points) and give my honest review. I especially find it rewarding when an author DOES comment on the blog saying thanks. And as a few of my favorite Authors can attest, I can go fan crazy and stalk them on Twitter or Facebook...In a good way of course.

So please be respectful to to each other and we can have fun, meaningful relationships.

Thanks!

And now the Random Question of this week:

Fight! Fight! If you could have two fictional characters battle it out (preferably from books), who would they be and who do you think would win?

OK, I'm going out on a limb this week. I'm going with one character I have read about, Gin Blanco from the Elemental Assassin series and an unknown to me yet...Cat from the Night Huntress series.

I'm not even going to TRY and take a stab (bad play on words, but just go with it) at who would win as both are highly skilled professionals and have very different knowledge an weapons. But to me that would be interesting to watch.<\p>

Review - Vaempires by Thomas Winship

Vaempires
Book One The Evolutionary War
By Thomas Winship

It is the morning of Princess Cassandra’s sixteenth birthday. Everyone’s attention is focused on the heir to the vampire throne. World leaders, the rich and famous, and VIPs from every corner of the globe have gathered in the nation’s capital to celebrate the momentous event.

Cassandra’s boyfriend, Daniel, is late for the party. He’s still outside the city when all hell breaks loose. What he believes is an act of terrorism proves to be a full-fledged revolution. Væmpires—former vampires who mutated into warm-blooded creatures with an insatiable hunger for cold blood—have launched coordinated attacks across the globe, with three goals: the eradication of humanity, the enslavement of vampires, and the ascension of væmpires as the dominant species on the planet.

Review

Princess Cassandra (Cassie) is turning 16. Its the big important day she can officially be princess to her family. There is even a HUGE celebration in which many people have come to the royal estate, but things go terribly wrong and chaos erupts as her home is attacked by the væmpires. Cassie is wandering the halls where massive casualties have occurred, the guard is mostly dead and soon she discovers so are her parents in a most heinous way.

Daniel was out of town when the attack started, and heading back home he encounters numerous casualties in the streets as the væmpires are attacking and draining vampires at will. He is desperately trying to get back to Cassie's estate to check and see if she is there...when he tries to com her and can't reach her he panics. He tries his best friends and manages to get through temporarily as the væmpires have cut off com links across the world. Daniel finds out that this wasn't an isolated attack. His next thoughts race back to his own home where his family are, but he sees that many vampires outside of their homes need his help before he can reach his own home or Cassie's.

Daniel tries to reach his home and at first all he hears is static and then his father's voice which is flighty and he sounds very raspy... he has been attacked and Daniel's mother is already dead and his father is near death. His father tells him he must take his rightful place and think of the people first and man-up and be the king he is meant to be. Daniel is afraid to do so, but soon realizes he doesn't have a choice of the world will soon be taken over by the væmpires. As he returns home he runs into trouble with some væmpires preying on humans and others with powers noever before seen in their species. All the more frightening to vampire-kind and humans alike.

Meanwhile, Cassie is in her own battle as she was kidnapped by a væmpire, Vielyn, out to be the king. She struggles with his added strength, speed and second opposable thumb in order to free herself from being held captive in the capitols secret chamber cell. She finds a means to escape while Daniel fights his way back into the capitol in search of Cassie. Meanwhile only to be hunted down again by Vielyn and another væmpire with a power of her own. even when they are reunited, they are far from safe as this new væmpire's powers are unleashed leaving Daniel and Cassie fighting for their own and each other to survive.

Guest Blog with LJ Hadaway

Good morning everyone!I am thrilled to have a talented author taking over this morning. I have LJ Hadaway here to talk briefly about her very chilling tale... The Dark Side of Purgatory. So without further ado I hand over my blog to LJ!

Let me tell you a bit about Jaxon Slater. He’s the bad boy you had a crush on in high school- maybe a little later. He’s got that crazy, crooked grin that makes your heart skip a beat- when it’s directed at you- and a wink that causes you to blush- even when you don’t want to. He’s the guy you’d like to date- or spend the night with- but he’s certainly not marriage material!

He’s got a great sense of humor and you like him fine sober. Trouble is, he doesn’t seem to like himself much that way. Figures he’s better off after he takes a drink---or two..or more.

He’s the guy, that when you hear sirens from far away, your first thought is, “Hope it’s not Slater.”

Come on, go with Jaxon Slater somewhere you’ve never been before…Purgatory. Maybe you can help him stay on the right path- help him redeem himself. You won’t regret it.

DARK SIDE OF PURGATORY

By L.J. Hadaway

Jaxon Slater was the life-of-the-party- guy until one day he woke up in Purgatory. He runs into a mean bunch of ...guys...an unlikely guide and... possible redemption. His quest is finding a certain young woman and steering her away from the path of Destruction that killed him. He will need to face the wreckage of his past. Old temptations linger. Dark forces shadow his path.

Book Trailer

Long blurb

Everyone knows Jaxon Slater. He’s the life-of-the-party guy. He’s the fun guy we want to invite to our out door barbeques but not marry our daughters. He is our nephew, the next-door neighbor who drinks too much, a friend of a friend that overdosed on heroin. He’s the class clown in high school that was always in trouble from drinking and driving.

Jaxon Slater has ‘pushed the envelope’ and tried to scam his way through most of his life. He’s charismatic and good-looking. Many things come easy to Jaxon. Sobriety isn’t one of them. He’s tried staying clean numerous times but always falls  back into relapse, using one more time. His long time sponsor had warned him plenty... His last use of heroin landed him dead-in Purgatory.

Jaxon believes he is having a terrible nightmare until he finds an old friend and recalls how he died. Reality sets in and Jaxon begins to learn the rules of the strange land. He runs into a mean bunch of guys, an unlikely guide and... possible redemption. His quest is to find a certain young woman and steer her away from the path of Destruction that killed him. In doing so, he will need to face the wreckage of his past. Old temptations linger and Dark forces shadow his path. Jaxon has no idea his journey will take him to an abyss of his deepest fears.

Excerpt:

Jaxon panted from exertion while he jogged towards his old buddy. He stopped a few feet away, leaned over, and rested his hands at the top of his knees, gasping for air. It took a moment for him to catch his breath. He stood up and looked over his old friend. He looked identical to the last time Jaxon saw him. Skinny dude, his lean face held a beard with a touch of gray beginning at his temples and chin, sporting a ponytail, worn blue jeans, and a black turtleneck sporting The Doors.

Shorts gave a slight grin and shook his head.

“So, you’re here too?”

“Uh?” Jaxon responded, unsure if he heard him right. He smiled back. “I’m having this crazy dream. It’s funny you being here, I haven’t thought about you in....” He stopped. Jaxon’s eyes squinted a bit, trying to pull up an old memory. It came to him. “I thought you were....” His voice trailed off.

“Dead?” Shorts answered.

Jaxon nodded.

Shorts looked passed Jaxon, staring at what seemed like nothing, and paused. His voice was low and heavy, as if coming from a deep well. “One hellav’a pile up on my bike.”

Jaxon remembered hearing about it now. Shorts going too fast around a corner on his Harley, grazing a telephone pole. Tipping sideways, the only thing in his way was the damn guide wire, bolted into the ground.

His forehead furrowed deep calling up the memory...taking his head clean off. Jaxon glanced at Shorts’ neck, but the turtleneck he wore hid any...scars. He shuddered again. A feeling of anxiety began to stir in his stomach. “I guess I’m still dreaming.” He glanced down the paved road. “Where are we? It’s the old neighborhood, but different.”

Shorts tilted his head back and laughed. Meeting Jaxon’s look, Shorts’ eyes flashed red. Jaxon reared back, remembering the lizard’s eyes a few minutes earlier. His old friend opened his mouth to speak. Jaxon noticed his teeth were rotten, probably from all the meth he used to inject. His voice took on a different tone now. It seemed to echo as he spoke. An evil grin emerged.

“Why, we’re on the dark side of Purgatory, Jaxon Slater.”

“Purgatory?” Jaxon questioned, his nightmare fears expanding.

“Yeah. That limbo place between Heaven and Hell. And we’re on the dark side….” He

Shorts climbed on his bike. “Come on, bro.” He waved for Jaxon to get on. Jaxon got behind him. Shorts turned, formed his fingers into a make believe gun, lowered his thumb, and pretended to shoot him. “And you’re dead.”

Review - Wings of Desire by Arianna Skye

Wings of Desire
By Arianna Skye

Not your (grand)mother's fairytale...

Rhiannon Kinsley's life goes from boring to downright crazy when a freak lightning bolt strikes her laptop. To make matters even more bizarre, strange words and symbols flash across the computer screen and she hears a mysterious voice. Time to call the men in white coats! Then Cerne Silverwing, an intriguingly sexy man, appears. He insists she’s a faerie princess whose fate will determine his own. What a crock! Now she knows who really needs those white coats.

With the Dark Faerie forces threatening his kingdom, Cerne kidnaps Rhiannon and brings her to Fey, a land where magic knows no bounds. He's performing a duty to save his kingdom and nothing more—a duty that will bring him his wings and the strengthened magic that comes with them. If he doesn’t unite with the princess as her consort, those wings will never grow. But this princess grew up in the land of laptops and instant messages, and she’s convinced they're both crazy. Despite their differences, the two are thrust together to defeat the whip-wielding Dark Faerie Queen before she takes over the kingdom. Passion and peril aside, will Rhiannon and Cerne discover their true destiny?

Excerpt

Cerne caught her hand in his and gave her a heated gaze. "I didn't want to resort to this,” he said, his voice thick and heady. "But I've run out of options.” He pulled her against his hard-muscled body. With his thumb and forefinger, he lifted her chin.

Clenching her fists, she bit her lip. Tingling numbness filled her every pore. She attempted to pull herself from his embrace, but her body wouldn’t cooperate.
"Let me go! You're frightening me."

"It's for your own good and the good of your people, my sweet.” He traced a finger lightly over her lips. "Soon you'll understand.” He lowered his lips to hers and gently nibbled. Coaxing her mouth open, his tongue swirled with hungry strokes along hers.

She moaned softly as her traitorous tongue danced with his. Lessening his grip on her arm, he allowed her to press closer and rub her bikini-clad breasts against the hard ridges of his chest. Her nipples pebbled against the spandex of her swim top.

Stupid nipples.

She twisted her fingers in his dark mane, pulling him closer. Heedless of what she knew was right, she intensified the kiss. He hoisted her up onto his lap, letting her straddle the rock-hard erection that filled his trousers. Grinding her hips against his, she reached down to unfasten and untie the garment.

He pulled her hands away. "No, leannan. I just want to kiss. The joining must occur at Beltane—in Fey.”

"I'm not going to Fey—”

He reclaimed her lips. Intoxicating warmth spread throughout her body while he licked, sucked and nibbled. She gasped in pleasure and let his tongue probe the cavern of her mouth again. Light as a feather, she sighed in deep contentment. By God, was she floating? Closing her eyes, Rhiannon allowed him have his way with her.

"I'm sorry,” he breathed against her lips. "It was the only way.”

"What—” Her eyes flickered as spots danced before them until darkness took over.

Review

Rhiannon Kinsley is a lonely mid 20's single lady. She's a bit lonely and is again stuck at home with only her laptop and thr chatrooms for company, but her night takes aturn for the strangest when her laptop gets hit by lightning, she begins to hear a sexy mans voice and she can see strange symbols on the screen. Time to go call the Pscyh Ward! So when she gives up on her laptop and decides to take certain matters into her own hands, when all of the sudden the voice comes back and helps her get a grip, leaving her hot and heady with lust.

Cerne Silverwing is destined to be Rhiannon's consort, but first he must find out if she's tainted and that she is in fact the Princess that they believe she is. Not to mention get her to Fay to take her rightful place and save their land from the hands of Korrigan, the Dark Fairy Queen, who is hell bent on ruling all of Fey sending it into chaos. When he is given no choice, but to kidnap Rhiannon and bring her to Fey he is in for a surprise.

Rhiannon thinks this is a strange dream, that this place isn't real. As she learns in Fey, she is finding things here aren't all that different from Earth, with the exception of a few rather strange customs and rules they have. She begins to see she is accepted and cherished here, she has many close friends, and she is strangely comfortable here. Once she starts her Magic training and her pleasure training she starts to like things, but she still was determined to return to earth, she can't just disappear. However as things start to happen she finds she can't just leave these people when there is trouble, but in order to do so, she must take on her responsibilities and become the Princess she was destined to be. She agrees and her training commences, however when Korrigan nearly kills her lady-in-waiting, Onora, Rhiannon knows that was meant to kill her, and things get personal.

With the help of Maeve, Bel and Cerne her magic training progresses rapidly and she finds it almost natural to her. Before her training is complete Korrigan sets a few traps and kidnaps Rhiannon! Without her powers Rhiannon is helpless against Korrigan, but get some unlikely help form the Dark Queens sister, Aine. With Aine's help they hinder Korrigan and get free of her, but it only enrages Korrigan who sends her top hunter after them.

The battle is on with Rhiannon and Aine helping the White Fairie army protect their kingdom, their people, and their royal family, even to the death. Maeve, Bel, Cerne and the army are kept busy fighting Ogre's and trolls while Rhiannon and Aine taker on the deadly dragon riders. It's a fierce battle and it's far from over when Korrigan find s out her head hunter and his mighty dragon are charred. Things are far from over as Cerne comes to defend Rhiannon from Korrigan. Will they make it through and become life-mates or is their kingdom doomed to darkness? That I swon't spoil, you'll have to read for yourselves.

I'm not usually one who likes Fairie stories, but this was a fun, unique and intriguing story. I found it hard to put down as Rhiannon goes through her acceptance of Fey and her new family, love and her true role. I love how Arianna threw in a TON of expressions most of us use all the time. The poor Fey have no clue what she's talking about and more often then not she has to explain what our expressions mean. I loved Cerne and how he was hot-headed until near the end. He wanted to believe his feelings for Rhiannon were only lust and not love, but as they battle for the White Fairie land he sees her strength and determination he can't deny his true feelings, but can't find it in him...to actually say, "I love you" This makes Rhiannon mad and she turns aay and gives him the cold shoulder treatment. I loathed and hated Korrigan and her truly black heart for all she did to the Faerie kingdoms she plundered and destroyed and enslaved the people. It was a well spun tale and it kept me turning pages long into many nights. A sound 4 of 5 stars to Arianna Skye for this winged novel.

And now the Random Question of this week:

What is one book that you would be nervous to see a movie adaption of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

OK, I'm betting that quite a few people would agree that Veronica Roth's Divergent Trilogy movie would not likely live up to the book. I don't see how even with technology that we can represent the factions, Tris, Four and all th eother major characters throughout the trilogy. It would be interesting to see if they do though and who they get to play the character.

Laura Kaye’s WEST OF WANT Preview & Prizes Event!

Good morning to you all. I am thrilled to be part of a Special Event for my favorite author, Laura Kaye. With that I'm letting Laura take over!

Happy WEST OF WANT Preview & Prizes Event, everyone! Today, April 10, was the original release date for Book 2 in my Hearts of the Anemoi series, West of Want. And then some really cool things happened: my publisher, Entangled Publishing, signed a huge deal with the nation’s biggest book distributor, which means for the first time ever, my books will be shelved in brick-and-mortar bookstores. And then, West of Want received a very nice pre-sales estimate by the booksellers and Barnes and Nobles bought it for all their stores nationwide (and it got bought for airports, too—squee!). The only bad news in this whole scenario was this: the release date got pushed back, by three LONG months! LOL So, I thought I’d celebrate the original release date with a preview of the book and a big contest, and give you a small taste to whet your appetite until the actual release date arrives.

"Laura Kaye’s captivating writing and vibrant world-building will have readers hooked on the gods of the Anemoi. WEST OF WANT is steamy, spellbinding, and a must-read for all romance fantasy fans."
~Elisabeth Naughton, author of the Eternal Guardians series

Forty sites are celebrating with me today, and there are different posts at those different sites. To see the whole list of participants, click here. Now, without further ado, here’s the book blurb and one of four different never-before-seen excerpts from the book available for you to enjoy:

WEST OF WANT BLURB

Betrayal is all he's ever known, but in her, he'll find a love strong enough to be trusted...

When Marcella Raines' twin brother dies, she honors his request to be buried at sea, never expecting the violent storm that swamps her boat. Though she's gravely injured--and still emotionally damaged from her recent divorce--Ella fights to survive.

Zephyros Martius is the Supreme God of the West Wind and Spring, but being the strongest Anemoi hasn't protected him from betrayal and loss. Worse, he's sure his brother Eurus is behind it. When Zeph's heartbreak whips up a storm that shipwrecks a human, his guilt forces him to save her.

Ella is drawn to the vulnerability Zeph hides beneath his otherworldly masculinity and ancient blue eyes. And her honesty, empathy, and unique, calming influence leave Zeph wanting...everything. When Eurus threatens Ella, she and Zeph struggle to let go of the past, defend their future, and embrace what they most want--a love that can be trusted.

WEST OF WANT EXCERPT

Ella was down the rabbit hole. No doubt about it. A beautiful and presumably gifted man with impossible powers. A miracle healing. Some sort of fraternal feud that had apparently put the crosshairs of a curse on her back.

And the weirdest thing? It all felt real. The oddness was as exhilarating as it was frightening. But she was going with it, for now. After all, he’d eased her pain, healed her injuries, and offered his protection against his own brother—what more would a man have to do to earn her faith? So, she believed Zephyros, believed in him. She just hoped she didn’t live to regret putting her faith in him. But at some point, she had to listen to her gut again, start trusting it.

Not everyone was Craig.

She returned the scissors to the counter, pushed them far from the edge. Everything looked like a mishap waiting to happen, now. She had no idea how someone could make you have bad luck, but something had to explain how she’d tripped and almost fallen, busted her toe, burned herself, and cut her hand, all in the past fifteen minutes.

She whirled on Zeph. “So, will you do this cleansing?”

He studied her face. “Perhaps you would like to hear what it entails first?”

Ella released a shallow breath. “Okay.” She shifted feet. “What do I—”

“You must be in water, and I must bathe you.” Ella gaped. “First in a salt bath, and then I must rinse you off in the shower.”

She scoffed. “Oh, that’s all?”
